Healthcare

The biggest challenge of traveling to Ladakh is breathing. Leh city is situated at an altitude of 11,300 feet, while other places in Ladakh vary in altitude. Khardung La Pass in Ladakh is at 17,900 feet, and Umlingla Pass is at 19,024 feet. Those of us who live at lower altitudes can suffer from breathlessness when suddenly ascending to such heights. To prepare, exercise two months before your Ladakh trip and incorporate meditation or pranayama alongside. This will increase your body’s oxygen capacity.

If you travel to Ladakh by road via Jammu and Kashmir, the road ascends significantly, and it takes two days to reach Leh city. This gradual ascent allows you to adjust quickly and acclimatize. However, if you come via Manali, you’ll suddenly ascend from 5,000 to 6,000 feet, which might cause breathing issues initially. But after a couple of days, you’ll adjust gradually.

Bring two oxygen cylinders with you when you travel to Ladakh, which will be necessary at high-altitude places. You can purchase them online.

If you’ve traveled from home to Ladakh without much preparation and find it difficult to breathe in Leh city, drink plenty of water and find a red flower in Leh city. Buy it, keep it in your room, and inhale deeply. It will greatly benefit you, in my opinion.

Carry a medicine box with you and consult a doctor to obtain medications suitable for your body based on your needs while staying in Leh City. Stay in Leh City for at least one day for acclimatization, ideally two days. Adjust yourself to the environment and drink plenty of water.

Increase your food intake, exercise, walk around, and rest. These actions will minimize your breathing issues at high altitudes.

If you feel serious breathing issues at high altitudes, you can visit an army camp nearby for medical assistance.

Electronic Problems

There are frequent electronic problems in Ladakh. The hotel or homestay staff will inform you when there will be electricity and when there won’t be. If they don’t inform you, inquire yourself. Meanwhile, keep your devices charged.

Carry a power bank from home and extra batteries for your camera and torch because batteries drain quickly due to the weather there.

Clothing

When you go to Ladakh, keep in mind to keep your body warm. If you’re a biker, definitely bring warm, weather-resistant clothes.

Permit

You need permission to enter Inner Line areas in Ladakh. If you are Indian, you can get the permit online. But if you are a foreigner, you will need to bring a permission letter directly.

If you want to go to Inner Line areas (Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, Khardung La Pass, Turtuk, Tso Moriri Lake, Hanle Village, Umling La), you’ll need to think about permission. There are many agencies in Ladakh city that provide easy permission.

Bike

If you bring your own bike to Ladakh, be sure to take care of the tires, chains, pickup, clasps, etc. Follow the correct route plan to Ladakh and how many days and where you will go.

If you bring a bike, detailed information about what kind of problems you may face can be found in the blog “Third Day Trip to Magnetic Hill and Sangam Point in Ladakh.”

Bike Rent

If you want to tour Ladakh by bike and don’t have your own bike, there’s no problem. If you are Indian, take your driving license with you, and if you are a foreigner, take your driving license with your passport. An international license would be very good. This way, you can easily rent a bike in Leh City.

Solo Travel

If you want to travel to Ladakh alone, you can rent a bike. Alternatively, you can hire a personal taxi to travel on a budget. There are many agencies in Leh city that can assist you with your Ladakh trip.

Group Travel

If you want to travel with friends or family, you can visit Ladakh at a low cost, reducing expenses such as hotels, food, car rentals, etc. You can also arrange your trip through an agency.

Dry Food

Ladakh is a place where shops are scarce within 100 to 120 kilometers. Therefore, bring along dry foods, almonds, and raisins to satisfy your hunger and boost your energy.

Map

I have a separate blog about Ladakh’s map with detailed descriptions of its roadways. You can read that blog if you want to learn more about the area.

Cash

Ladakh is a place where ATMs are not readily available. Moreover, many hotels, restaurants, and petrol pumps do not accept cards, so it’s essential to carry cash with you.

Place

There are many places in Ladakh that you wouldn’t want to miss, such as Leh City, Magnetic Hill, Sangam Point, Khardung La Pass, Nubra Valley, Turtuk, Jaskar River, Moonland Lamayuru, Khalsar, Rancho’s School, Hanle, Hunder, Diskit, Pangong Lake, Tso Moriri Lake, Umling La. You can explore these places during your visit.

Month

If you plan to travel to Ladakh by road, the best time is between May and October. However, from November to April, various roads in Ladakh are closed due to sub-zero temperatures and snow. The optimal months to visit Ladakh are May, June, July, and August.

Overall, this blog covers everything about Ladakh. I hope reading it will be very helpful for you. Thank you.

Ladakh Travel Road Map And Travel Plan

Ladakh Travel Road Map And Travel Plan

In this blog, we’ll share with you how you can plan your trip to Ladakh. How you can see the beauty of Ladakh at a low cost? And about Ladakh’s road map, hotels, food, etc. And I’ll share my experience of visiting Ladakh.

You can come to Ladakh in different ways. Some come from Delhi, some come by plane from Delhi, and some come from Kolkata. Tourists come to Ladakh not only from different parts of India but from all over the world.

Road 1

leh-manali-highway

From Manali, crossing Rohtang Pass, you reach Jispa. From Jispa, 10 kilometers before Darcha. From Darcha, crossing Shingo La Pass, you reach Padum through the inner road via Singey La and Sirsir La, reaching Leh via Srinagar Highway, near Lamayuru.

Those who do not want to enter Zanskar Valley can go straight from Manali via Darcha, crossing Baralacha La and Taglang La, and reaching Leh. This is the main Manali-Leh Highway.

Road 2

Jammu-and-Kashmir

And if you want to go through Jammu and Kashmir, you have to go from Jammu and Kashmir to Srinagar, then through Kargil to Suru Valley. Then from Suru Valley, Panikhar, Parkachik, Rangdum, you reach Padum. If you do not want to go to Padum via this route, you can reach Leh via Srinagar.

Ladakh Route Plan

ladakh-road-map

If you come to Leh by flight, rest for a day in Leh city. The next day, visit various monasteries, palaces, and tourist spots in Leh city. After that, see Magnetic Hill and Sangam Point. The next day, go towards Nubra Valley or Hunder.

The following day, from Hunder, go to Turtuk village. The next day, Pangong Lake, and then spend the night at Hanle. See Tso Moriri Lake the next day. Then see Umling La (world’s highest motorable road) from Hanle, come back to Hanle, and the following day go wherever you want from Leh.

Bike Trip

Those who will travel to Ladakh by bike can rent a bike from Leh city or bring their own bike. If you want to see Leh City, you can trek in the city for a day. Otherwise, after seeing Magnetic Hill and Sangam Point, you can go to Khardung La Pass from there and spend the night in Nubra or Hunder. From there, you can spend the night at Pangong Lake and then go to Umling La. You can end your trip here.

Solo Travel

For those who want to travel to Ladakh alone, there are various agencies in Leh city you can talk to and join a group. However, if you’re preparing for a solo bike trip to Ladakh, be very cautious and plan carefully.

Permits

Regarding permits, I’ve discussed extensively in the previous blog with you. Here, I’ll also mention a few things about permits. Indian nationals currently do not need permits. However, some permits need to be obtained online for non-Indians to travel on certain inner-line routes.

Budget

Let me talk a bit about the budget. If you go to Ladakh during the main season, everything will cost more. You’ll spend more on car rentals, hotels, and food. Prices mainly increase during that time. But if you go off-season, you won’t need to spend so much. Try planning your trip from the end of May to July to save costs.

I’ll tell you about my expenses – I spent around 50000 rupees. We spent 12 days and 13 nights. We traveled almost everywhere in Ladakh. My expenses were high because I rented a bike from Leh.

Hotels

Let me tell you a bit about hotels. If you travel to Ladakh off-season, you can find good hotels at a low cost. But if you go during tourist season, renting a decent room can cost you between 1000 to 1500 rupees.

I hope through this blog I’ve informed you about Ladakh tours and shared my personal experience. Reading this blog will surely be helpful for you. I invite you to read the next blog and thank you for reading this blog.

winter-Spiti-Valley

Welcome to the second blog of my winter Spiti Valley journey. In this blog, I’ll share our travels from Kaza, Hikkim, Komic to Langza. I’ll share all my experiences from this winter Spiti Valley trip with you here.

If you’re planning a winter Spiti Valley trip, what should you keep in mind? Which roads remain open in Spiti Valley, and what should your route plan be? What problems might you encounter during your Spiti Valley journey? All of this is covered in this blog.

For tips on visiting Spiti Valley

Best recommended time

If you want to see white Spiti, visit between February and March. But if you go in November or December, you might miss the snowfall and endure extreme cold without fully enjoying the beauty.

If you want to see Spiti’s mountains and valleys completely covered in white, be prepared to endure severe cold and adventurous stays, truly experiencing Spiti. Visiting Spiti Valley in winter isn’t as easy as you might think—it’s from personal experience.

Winter Spiti Valley Road map

black-ice-on-the-roads-of-winter-Spiti-Valley

There’s black ice on the roads of winter Spiti Valley, making driving very challenging. If you go there, be prepared with experience in driving on slippery roads in various places.

Hotels

Finding hotels in winter Spiti Valley can be difficult. Don’t expect luxury hotels; most are closed. However, homestays are open and can provide accommodation at a lower cost. When renting a homestay, discuss access to hot water for bathing and toilet facilities, or you may face issues.

Medical Facility

Medical facilities are scarce in winter Spiti Valley. If you have a serious problem, you’ll need to go to the hospital in Kaza. For very serious issues, you may need to go to Shimla or Manali.

Electricity

Electricity in winter Spiti Valley can go out anytime, from one day to even 30 days. So, keep your devices charged whenever you’re in a hotel. Also, it’s crucial to carry extra camera batteries and a power bank from home.

Clothing

Since you’re planning to visit winter Spiti Valley, bring heavy winter clothing as temperatures can drop to -20 degrees Celsius.

Spiti Valley Bike Tour in extreme cold

Spiti Valley Bike Tour in extreme cold

Spiti-Valley

Welcome to the 1st blog of spiti valley bike tour. Spiti is located in Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh has many places that are worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. (Spiti Valley, Manali, Shimla, Dalhousie, Keylong, Kinnaur) Each place in Himachal Pradesh carries its own beauty. One of the standout places in Himachal Pradesh is Spiti Valley; our road trip this time was from Delhi to Spiti Valley.

Delhi to Narkanda

Delhi-to-Narkanda

I was very excited to go to Himachal Pradesh. Anyway, on the first day, we started from Delhi at 3:30 am to go to Narkanda. I love winter, so we went in winter to see the beauty of Spiti.

The distance from Delhi Airport to Narkanda is 417 kilometers. You can find the road map from Delhi to Narkanda on Google Maps. From Narkanda, you can follow the road map I provide. Because to see the unique beauty of the mountains from Narkanda, following our suggested path is ideal. And for those who want to find a hotel within a limited budget, this is the best hotel.

Narkanda to Chitkul

Narkanda-to-Chitkul

On the second day, we planned to visit Chitkul. It is 176 kilometers from Narkanda. From VJ Regency in Narkanda, we will go through Chalan, Kumarsain, Kingel, Luhri, Duttnagar, Busharhr, Molgi, and Suru to reach Chitkul.

The morning of the second day in Narkanda was very beautiful. We saw the sunrise in the morning and were ready to start our ride at 8 am. After riding for a while, we had breakfast at Hotel Bushahr Regency. It is a very good hotel with delicious food. After finishing our meal, we rested for a while and started riding again. We faced some bad roads after Rampur.

After a while, we saw the iconic mountain road. What an extraordinary sight! The road cuts through the mountains. We rode 120 kilometers and reached Tapri in the afternoon where we had lunch.

From there, Chitkul was forty-nine kilometers away. Before we got there, we saw how skillfully the road was carved through the mountains. Then the real adventure began. It was a very difficult ride, and then it started snowing. After a very tough ride, we reached the last Indian village of Chitkul in the evening.

Zostel-Hotel

We stayed at Zostel Hotel in Chitkul. The next morning, after breakfast, we left for Tabo. At that time, the temperature was minus five degrees Celsius, and riding the bike felt even colder.

Chitkul to Tabo

Chitkul-to-Tabo

The road plan from Chitkul to Tabo was through Sangla, Reckong Peo, Malling, Shialkhar, Lapcha, and Tipta to Tabo.

sunrise-in-spiti-valley

In the afternoon, we had our lunch at a farmer’s homestay. Tabo was 140 kilometers away from there. The road from Chitkul to Tabo offered beautiful scenery and terrifying cold. Our bike riding experience was truly extraordinary. Exploring on a bike is something different. Look around in all directions and immerse yourself in nature. Here there will be plenty of cold, so I knew I had to change some parts of my bike in advance. Since we came in winter, we had to take heavy jackets and gloves.

Now let’s talk about the road. The road can never be said. Sometimes a very good road will not come again, and sometimes a very bad road. Although the road may occasionally disappoint you, nature will never disappoint you like a road. Nature will fill your mind. You will witness every type of beauty at every turn. Every time I see nature, I fall in love with it. When we reached Spiti in the evening, the temperature was fourteen degrees Celsius. We rented a homestay there and spent the night.

With this, I am ending my blog here. I invite you to read the next blog and thank you for reading this blog.
